Facebook takes down the profile of Ukrainian TV host Serhiy Smalchuk

20.03.2024, 11:02

Facebook social network took down the profile of Ukrainian TV host Serhiy Smalchuk with no option to appeal.

Smalchuk reported this in a story on his new Facebook page.

He noted that he had the deleted profile for about 15 years.

"I don't know what, how, why. No explanation and no way to appeal. That is, that profile is simply gone. The page had been around for 15 years – ever since Facebook started working in Ukraine," said Smalchuk.

Profiles and posts previously deleted by Meta

In November 2023, Facebook deleted the post by Victoria Yermolaeva, author of the Hromadske Radio podcast "This is About Us", about Ukrainian Bulgarians, but the social network restored it later.

Moreover, on January 25, 2024, Facebook deleted two posts by Hanna Mamonova, a freelance correspondent with "Babel" and war crimes documenter with "Ukraine Testifies – The Reckoning Project", about her crowdfunding campaign for a Ukrainian radio reconnaissance unit.

Also, in January 2024, Meta permanently deleted the Instagram page of the Memorial Platform. Over nearly two years, the project's team had collected the stories of 5,440 people who were killed by the Russian invaders. Yet, later the page was restored.
