Case of assault on IMI representative requalified as aggression on journalist
Police in Khmelnytsky reclassified criminal proceedings over assault on Alyona Bereza, an investigative journalist and regional representative of IMI as threat or violence against a journalist (part 1 of Article 345-1 of the Criminal Code). The head of the communications of the police in Khmelnytsky region Inna Hlega told it IMI.
The proceedings were reclassified after a number of investigative and active search measures.
Police are currently working to identify the assaulter.
Alyona Bereza said that she was in constant contact with the police to assist investigation.
"I am under protection. (…) thanks to it, I was able to get back to my professional journalistic activity. I am in constant contact with the police and contribute to the investigation as much as I can, " the journalist said.
As IMI reported, on November 3, in Khmelnytsky, an assailant poured unknown substance on Alyona Bereza, an investigative journalist and regional representative of IMI. The journalist related the assault to her professional activity.
Following the attack on Bereza, the police opened a criminal case for hooliganism (Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code).
On November 4, Alyona Bereza was placed under protection of armed security guards.
