He stressed that journalists and the media were protected under international humanitarian law.
“I reiterate my call Russian authorities to respect International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and to cease targeting journalists and media facitilites, which are granted protection as civilians and civilian objects under IHL,” Braathu said.
Earlier, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the Russian attack on the building housing We Ukraine TV, saying that Russian strikes on civilian areas were war crimes.
The attack occurred on 8 September. The journalists were broadcasting live as part of the national telethon United News at the moment of the strike. The building was severely damaged and six employees of the TV channel were wounded.
