UAF officer, "Ukrainski Novyny" team member Oleksandr Petrakovsky goes missing near Chasiv Yar
Former employee of the news agency "Ukrainski Novyny", now mechanized company commander, UAF junior lieutenant Oleksandr Petrakovsky has gone missing in action near Chasiv Yar (Donetsk oblast), reported the media outlet on June 2.
The unit's command informed Oleksandr's family that the man went missing on May 30 during a combat encounter with the enemy.
Oleksandr is officially considered missing under special circumstances.
"Notifying the family... that the mechanized company commander of the army unit A42... Junior Lieutenant Oleksandr Viktorovych Petrakovsky, born 1977, has gone missing under special circumstances while performing his army duties, faithful to his military oath and having demonstrated resilience and courage during a combat encounter with the enemy near Chasiv Yar, Bakhmut District of Donetsk oblast, on May 30, 2024," said the unit command in the notice to the soldier's relatives.
According to the media outlet, Oleksandr did not come back from the combat mission, which was reported by his fellow soldiers and family members.
"He was in the group's vanguard during the latest mission. They took the position quickly. Unfortunately, not for long... A mine hit the dugout. No one came out after that. They searched for the wounded with a copter. Our guys went in twice to collect the bodies, but to no avail. The position is now under the enemy's control," our colleague's comrades in arms reported.
Oleksandr Petrakovsky had worked at "Ukrainski Novyny" since 2014.
He enlisted in the TDF in the first days of the full-scale invasion to defend his hometown, Irpin.
After the city was liberated, he was given the award "For service to Irpin city" and the order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree later.
During the two years of the full-scale war, he was promoted from a UAF senior sergeant to a junior lieutenant. He was the leader of a mechanized company for over a year.
In Irpin, Oleksandr Petrakovsky has a wife, Lyudmyla, two children and a sick father.

As reported earlier, journalist and soldier Volodymyr Parshevlyuk went missing in action Sinkivka district (Kharkiv oblast) in December 2023.
