Troshchynska on Ukrainian journalists in wartime: They show evil as evil
The work of Ukrainian journalists during this war proved that they show evil as evil and international law violations as international law violations, not "different points of view," said journalist, editor, communications and sensitive topics expert Tetyana Troshchynska in her interview with "Ukrainian Pravda".
"I think this is an important turning point for journalism in democratic countries as a whole. Why? Because the polarization trend in journalism has reached an unprecedented scale all over the world, and in this polarized society islands of 'alternative truths' are taking shape," the journalist explained.
At the same time, says Troshchynska, "a human rights violation is always a human rights violation, a crime is always a crime, a murder is always a murder, an attack is always an attack, kidnapping children is kidnapping children, genocide is genocide."
"And this is our key lesson," the media expert adds.
She notes that journalists are making fewer mistakes now than at the start of the full-scale invasion. According to her, they were often a matter of ethics.
"Take the story of Oleksandr Matsiyevsky, the Hero of Ukraine who was executed by the Russians, when the media called him by a another person's name for three days. Or the story of the little girl Liza, who was killed by a missile strike on Vinnytsia, and the freelancer journalist who broke into the intensive care unit to interview her mother. Or the news stories about the rape committed by the Russian troops, when descriptions of 'candles which were allegedly used to rape children' were allowed even by the then Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada," said Tetyana Troshchynska.
As reported by the IMI, journalist, producer, radio host, Suspilne's chief of strategic analysis and socially impactful content development Tetyana Troshchynska was awarded the sixth of the Heorhiy Gongadze Award.
Tetyana Troshchynska donated the award money to the unit where former journalist and Hromadske Radio host Andriy Kobalia serves.
