Suspicion pressed against assailant against TV crew with “112 Ukraina”

Suspicion was pressed against a relative of the director of the public company “Gutian Forestry” for obstruction of journalists' professional activity, as to the Office of public prosecutor in Kharkiv region.

“On January 17, 2020, a woman was notified of suspicion pressed against her person of criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code, which is obstruction of the legitimate professional activity of journalists, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, ” as the prosecutor's office reported. 

.Four other men are also suspected of part 3 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code. Three of them have been placed under home arrest.

They reminded at theprosecutor's office on August 28, 2019, an assault was made against a TV crew who was filming story illegal deforestation.

“A woman with a group of other people ran up to reporters, obturated the camera lenses, to pushed media workers. In addition, she barred the way to the TV crew’s car while her accomplices pierced the wheels of the car, she demanded to delete footage, ” as the prosecutor's office said.

As IMI reported, on August 28, 2019 “112 Ukraina” TV channel reported its TV crew was attacked by some administrative forestry enterprise employees in the village of Zolochiv, in Kharkiv region. The incident happened while the journalists were shooting a story about a forest theft. According to the channel, forestry workers blocked the car of the TV crew and punched the wheels, and also threatened with physical violence. The journalist of the TV channel Oleg Reshetnyak could call the police, who arrived to the spot, but did not intervene: the policemen were observing the happening without trying to intervene, as the report said.

On August 28, Kharkiv police detained 49 persons allegedly involved in the row with 112 Ukraine.

The police of Kharkiv Region pressed suspicion to one of the most aggressive assailant charging him with an offense under Part 3 of Art. 171 ("Obstruction of the Legal Professional Activity of Journalists") of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
