Pro-russian blogger Anatoliy Shariy, who was detained in Spain on suspicion of treason, will eventually be extradited to Ukraine and prosecuted by a Ukrainian court.

This was announced on the joint news telethon by the President's representative in the Constitutional Court, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Fedor Venislavskyy, Ukrinform reports.

"He was detained with the help of international legal assistance in the search for Mr. Shariy for committing a number of grave crimes in Ukraine. Accordingly, the procedure of his extradition to Ukraine will be launched now, and he will stand before Ukrainian court and held accountable under Ukrainian law," Venislavskyy said.

At the same time, he noted that all Western European countries are democratic and very closely monitor compliance with legal procedures.

Shariy's lawyers will contest the accusations, so it is too optimistic to hope that Shariy will be in Ukraine tomorrow.

"But there is no doubt that he will definitely get to the territory of Ukraine and will be handed over to the authorities," Venislavsky added.

As IMI reported, on May 4, pro-russian blogger Anatoliy Shariy was detained in Spain, whom the SSU suspects of treason.

The SSU suspects Anatoliy Shariy of committing crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Art. 111 (“Treason”) and Art. 161 (“Violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability, and other grounds”).
