Judge faces prosecution for disclosure of data from case files on murder of journalist Serhiyenko

The judge of a court in Cherkasy region will be tried for disclosure of the data of the investigation in the case of the murder of journalist Vasyl Serhiienko, as it is reported on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the report, the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office filed an indictment against a judge of one of the courts of Cherkasy region for interfering in the activities of a law enforcement officer and disclosing pre-trial investigation data (Part 2 of Article 343, Part 2 of Article 387 of the Criminal Code).

The prosecutor's office investigators had transferred a witness in the case of Serhiyenko's murder to another pre-trial detention center as part of security measures. The witness was accused within another criminal proceedings and was in the Cherkasy pre-trial detention center, he feared for his life.

In order to obtain the court's permission to transfer, the investigators appealed to the presiding judge, providing her with copies of the relevant ruling and motion. 

“At the regular open court hearing, the judge raised the issue of transferring the person to another pre-trial detention center for consideration of the participants in the proceedings and disclosed the data of the pre-trial investigation in other criminal proceedings, thus preventing the prosecutor's office investigators from establishing the circumstances. As a result, the witness, who was subjected to security measures, was forced to deny the fact of cooperation with law enforcement, and no sufficient evidence to press the suspicion to the instigators of the murder was obtained, "- the report said.

As IMI reported, on August 6, the investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation pressed suspicion to a member of a criminal organization involved in the April 2014 murder of journalist Vasyl Serhiyenko. 

on April 4, 2014 journalist and public activist Vasyl Serhyienko was kidnapped in the city of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi in Cherkasy region at the courtyard of his own home. A few days later his body with several signs of tortures was found in the forest in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi district.

On July 11, 2015, prosecutors of the Cherkasy region, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the region, detained a resident of Kyiv on suspicion of committing murder of journalist and public figure Vasyl Serhyenko.

On October 15, 2015, the Cherkasy police reported that Vasyl Serhyenko had been abducted, tortured and killed by Kiev killers.

On January 4, 2016, the prosecutor's office of Cherkassy regiont, following the results of the pre-trial investigation, approved and prosecuted an indictment against four residents of Kyiv in connection with the abduction and murder of journalist and public figure Vasyl Serhjynko. The suspected criminals were Maxim Rusin, Volodymyr Voronkov, Viktor Horbenko, Valentina Zavrazhina, Roman Nedibalyuk, and Vadim Melnyk. None of them admitted the charge during the trial.

On November 20, 2018, the Sosnivsky District Court of Cherkasy changed the preventive measure to the defendant in the organization of the murder of journalist Vasily Sergienko Vadym Melnyk for a period of 60 days in custody..
