"Economic Pravda" chief editor Dmytro Dienkov says he is joining the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He announced this on Facebook.
"Friends, thank you very much for your support. I have never felt anything like this before. I'm fine, we've come to an understanding with the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky TSC, and I'll soon join the unit I wanted to join before this incident. I will tell you the whole story soon," he wrote.
Denkov made the post after "Ukrainian Pravda" reported on his detention by border guards, who handed him over to the TSC, who kept him put of contact.
The UP chief editor Sevgil Musaieva noted that Dmytro had already discussed enlisting and had been preparing for it for the past few weeks.
"We decided that he would enlist after the banking forum in late June, because this is an important event for us, his area of work and expertise," explained Musaieva.
The chief editor of "Ukrainian Pravda", which was founded in 2000 by the assassinated journalist Heorhiy Gongadze, explained why Dmytro Denkov's disappearance sparked concern:
“Just imagine your editor going out of touch for several hours without warning. What would you think and how would you act in such a situation? Given the history of our media outlet, we are very sensitive to such situations. I can't imagine what his parents and wife went through."
She added that Denkov's whereabouts were unknown until his parents contacted the police.
"This should not be happening. We decided to go public and tell our audience about it, because it is a crime to deprive a person of the means to contact their relatives and warn them. We have done so before in similar cases," noted Musaeva and emphasized, "My personal opinion is this: this is an absolutely shameful practice that should stop immediately and that scares people even more, undermining trust and respect for the TSC and the state in general. Such incidents certainly do not make people more motivated to join the defense of the state and they play into the enemy's hands."
The Odesa Territorial Staffing and Social Support Center (TSSSC) noted that Denkov had not updated his data for a long time and had been declared wanted.
The Odesa TSSSC confirmed that Denkov was detained by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in Odesa oblast.
"The citizen's reasons for moving through the restritcted transit section were not confirmed by documents, neither were his reasons for not updating his data on time," noted the TSSSC.
The Center noted that the border guards opened an administrative case on Denko and took him to the district enlistment office.
"Given the disagreements regarding the situation that have arisen in the public, the issue has been taken under the control of the Odesa oblast TSSSC leadership," added the Territorial Staffing and Social Support Center of Odesa.
"Ukrainian Pravda" chief editor Sevgil Musaieva noted that Dmytro Denkov updated his data in Reserve+ on the first day after the application was launched.
"And when the Operational Command 'South' makes a Facebook post saying that that 'the aforementioned citizen has not updated his data for a long time' it is, to put it mildly, untrue," Sevgil Musaieva wrote.
On May 27, "Ukrainian Pravda" reported that the employees of an enlistment center had been keeping the "Economic Pravda" chief editor Dmytro Denkov in detention for almost 24 hours, preventing him from making phone calls.
