Zaporizhzhia journalist Oleh Shemchuk goes missing on a battlefield near Bakhmut
Oleh Shemchuk, an investigative journalist from Zaporizhzhia who fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, went missing on September 15 while performing a combat mission near Bakhmut, Donetsk oblast.
On September 25, the journalist's relative Victoria Ivanova announced this on her Facebook page.
"Help us find our godfather, son, friend Oleh Leonidovych Shemchuk, 08/10/1994. A machine gunner of the 2nd rifle division of the 1st rifle platoon of the 2nd rifle company of the 1st rifle battalion of military unit A0536, went missing near the Bakhmut district of Donetsk oblast on September 15, 2022. He went missing while performing a combat mission," she wrote.
The disappearance of 28-year-old Oleh Shemchuk has been confirmed by the former editor of "Nashi Hroshi. Zaporizhzhia" Yuriy Sydorov.
Before the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Oleh Shemchuk worked in the "Nashi Hroshi. Zaporizhzhia" project, collaborated with the NGO "Zaporizhzhia Center of Investigations" and worked with another investigative media "Zaporizhzhia Investigation Project" until 2022. Oleh was also a novice author.
