Verkhovna Rada declares PMC "Wagner" an international criminal organization
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared the private military company "Wagner" to be an international criminal organization.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak, People's Deputy from the "Holos" parliamentary faction, announced this on Telegram.
333 People's Deputies voted for the according Resolution No. 8397.
According to the document, the Ukrainian Parliament recognizes the private military company "Wagner" as an international criminal organization.
The Rada calls on the governments and parliaments of the countries worldwide to take similar action, taking into account the nature of the activities of PMC "Wagner" in Ukraine, the CAR, Mali, Libya and Syria.
The Ukrainian Parliament also recommends the Prosecutor General's Office, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs to step up the pre-trial investigation into persons, in particular, from PMC "Wagner", suspected of having committed crimes on the territory of Ukraine, with the aim of thorough and prompt implementation of said investigation and the submission of relevant material to the court according to the legal procedure.
At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted resolution No. 3735 (336 votes in favour), appealing to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly, the governments and parliaments worldwide with a call to recognize Russian private military companies as terrorist organizations.
As IMI reported, on February 2, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine declared the head of the private military company "Wagner" Evgeniy Prigozhin a suspect.
On January 20 of this year, the US Treasury declared PMC "Wagner" a "transnational criminal organization", which is supposed to result in new sanctions against it and its allies worldwide.
Threats and terrorist methods at large are quite characteristic of the Wagnerites. In November 2022, they killed their former fellow Evgeniy Nuzhin with a sledgehammer, and posted the video recording of the murder on the Internet. Almost immediately, as a transparent hint, Prigozhin sent a sledgehammer with smugges of fake blood, packed in a violin case, to the European Parliament.
