Until March 27th, registration for training course for regional journalists

Regional journalists are invited to attend the training course IN-SCIENCE set up by joint efforts of several organizations, the International Renaissance Foundation, the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ukraine, and the Institute of Mass Information.

The course consists of a series of webinars. The webinars will start at the end of March and will be held once a week during one month. Participants will granted certificates.

Those willing to attend  the course can register oneself and leave your wishes regarding the content of the course until March 27 - here. Maximum number of participants: 50.

Course speakers:

Iryna Andreytsiv, LIGA.Life editor, journalist, specializes in medical issues;

Oleg Feya, scientist, scientific journalist, author of the section "Science" in "Ukrainsky Tyzhden" weekly;

Dmytro Simonov, scientific journalist, ex-host of NV radio, special correspondent for science and technology Hromadske.ua, author of the podcast "Planet of Catastrophes" on Urban Space Radio;

Kateryna Bulavinova, doctor, medical expert of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine.

March 31st, 19:00 How to write on science and health, in particular about COVID-19

Where does the journalist look for quality information about science and medicine? How to work with scientists and scientific articles? What to pay attention to, and about what, on the contrary, it is not necessary to write and why? How to cover COVID-19 and immunization? Best practices in combating fake news and misinformation.

April 7, 19:00 How and why to cooperate with experts in science and medicine

How to choose a professional expert (and not a pseudo-scientist or evidentiary medicine doctor)? Who can comment on the topic COVID-19? What are the most common mistakes in working with scientists and doctors? Fresh topics and formats for COVID-19 coverage

April 13-14, 19:00 Practical workshops for journalists, depending on specialization: print and online media, TV and radio journalists

Features of creating texts about COVID-19. Real cases of international media and examples of adaptation of global topics to the local context. Practical assignment from science / medicine experts, feedback and homework.

April 21, 19:00 | Session of questions and answers with Kateryna Bulavinova, doctor, medical expert of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine

After the webinars, participants receive one-page recommendations, checklists and abstracts with lecture abstracts and additional hands-out. A closed group will be created to communicate with the lecturers.
