Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchy) and Medvedchuk were commissioning the most jeansa in online media outlets in July - IMI research
In July 2018, most materials that have features of being commissioned, that were published in online media outlet, were related to Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchy) and new member of the party "Za Zhyttia" (“For Life”), Viktor Medvedchuk. In total, they commissioned 80% of the total number of jeansa” registered by the experts in online media.
These are the results of survey of materials that have features of being commissioned (jeansa) on the main newsfeed of ten most popular Ukrainian online media outlets, conducted by IMI in the third quarter of 2018 with support of the program U-Media «Internews Network»*.
In total, in the third quarter of 2018, the level of commissioned or imporperly marked advertisement materials in online media outlets increased by more than two times. Where in the second quarter this indicator was 68 published materials, in the third one their number grew to 159 materials for the week of monitoring of the ten online media outlets.
Of the online media outlets, the one that published materials that have features of being commissioned the most was the website «UNIAN» (72 materials that have features of being commissioned, mostly for Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchy)).
Generally, the largest number of commissioned materials were related to activities of the Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchy and Russian Orthodox church – 50% from the total number of materials. News and complementary reports were related to Cross procession and celebration of the anniversary of baptism of Kievan Rus.
42% of commissioned materials were political, 8% related to commercial companies astroturfing.
Of the political materials, the majority of jeansa was related to activities of the party «Za Zhyttia» and its new member Viktor Medvedchuk – 30%, 7% were related to each of Oleh Liashko and Yulia Tymoshenko.
During the monitoring, no materials that were likely commissioned were detected on the central newsfeed of websites «Ukrainska pravda» and «Strana».

The monitoring was conducted by the experts of the |Institute of Mass Information with support of the program «U-Media» «Internews Network» in the period from July 23 to July 29, 2018 року in ten national Ukrainian online media outlets (UNIAN, «Obozrevatel», «Censor.net», 112.ua, «Strana.ua», TSN.ua, «Korrespondent.net», «Ukrainska pravda», «Liga.net», Ukrinform).
