Ukraine is in talks with Russia regarding the release of civilian hostages, including a separate list of Ukrainian journalists, Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, reported during a press conference in Kyiv on 12 August in response to a question from Ukrinform.
“Yes, we are negotiating across various categories of civilian hostages, and we do include a separate list of journalist community representatives in the discussion,” Lubinets said.
According to the Institute of Mass Information, at least 26 civilian Ukrainian media workers remain illegally imprisoned by Russian forces.
On 23 October 2024, the list of journalists detained by Russia was handed to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
