A page impersonating Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (ZN.UA) chief editor Yulia Mostova has appeared on Facebook, the outlet reported.
The team urged users not to interact with the account and to report it to the platform.
Mostova stressed that she has never had, and does not have, accounts on any social media platforms.
“I don’t know who created this fake account — friends or enemies. But I don’t want anyone using my name to mislead the respectable audience on Facebook,” she said.
Dzerkalo Tyzhnia team believes the page could be part of a smear attack on the outlet’s chief editor. They said that they had been facing DDoS attacks for some time, but that fake social media accounts posed a threat in their own right, since disinformation can spread quickly on social media.
The team urged users who come across Mostova’s page in their feed not to engage with it and to report it to Facebook immediately.
“We’re doing everything in our power to make sure this fake page has no chance of becoming a source of disinformation,” Dzerkalo Tyzhnia stressed.
As reported earlier, unknown scammers created another Facebook page impersonating Andriy Kulykov and used it to gather the contact details of Ukraine’s public figures.
