Russian troops targeted a substation in Slavutych on 1 October, leaving parts of Chernihiv oblast, including Chernihiv city, without electricity. The blackout affected the Suspilne Chernihiv office as well, the news outlet reported.
The local TV channel and Suspilne Culture temporarily lost T2 signal, and the Ukrainske Radio broadcast was interrupted.
Despite the lack of signal, the team continued to work and inform their readers on social media.
In a comment to Pavlo Pushchenko, the regional Institute of Mass Information representative, Andriy Titok (chief editor at Suspilne’s North-Eastern Hub and Suspilne Chernihiv) said that as of 2 October, the news outlet was operating as usual thanks to a powerful diesel generator.
“Yesterday, when there was a power outage, we turned it on and continued to work as usual for 10 minutes: posting to the website and social media, tuning in to the nationwide broadcast. For reasons beyond our control, the signal of both Ukrainske Radio and Pershyi TV ‘fizzled out’ every now and then due to the power shortage. But these problems have been resolved,” said Titok.
We remind you that there is an IMI Media Hub in Chernihiv with a steady power supply and Internet connection. Local journalists are invited to come to work in the hub if they need. Hourly power outage schedules have been introduced in the city.
