Oleksandr Vernihorov, Dnipro-based TV cameraman turned UAF serviceman, has been killed in action, former colleague, journalist Olha Vasylets reported to Kateryna Lysiyk, the regional Institute of Mass Information (IMI) representative.

Oleksandr Vernihorov died performing a combat mission in Kharkiv oblast, aged 36, on 28 June.

Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, Oleksandr was a cameraman with the Dnipro-based Channel 9 and Vidkrytyi TV.

He volunteered to enlist in the Ukrainian Armed Forces in July 2022.

Olha Vasylets remembers Oleksandr as a professional and reliable colleague.

“We worked on Channel 9 in Dnipro. We would go on filming trips together. Now I’m seeing obituaries by my colleagues, and everyone says that he was contagiously enthusiastic. That’s true. Whenever there was some kind of rally, some kind of filming with a risk of conflict, they always assign Sasha Vernihorov the cameraman. He was extremely effective in such commotions. Although he could work anywhere, really. At a rally where you need to react quickly, as well as an exhibition,” Olha Vasylets told the IMI representative.

Oleksandr will be buried today, 3 July, in Dnipro, at the Diivka-2 cemetery.

According to the Institute of Mass Information, Oleksandr Vernihorov is the 133rd media professional deceased in the course of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
