Chernihiv-based news website Cheline has contacted the Cyber Police, the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting, and TikTok support over an account that has been reposting the media outlet’s videos without permission, editor Talina Tarasenko reported to Andriy Kuzhel, the Institute of Mass Information representative in Chernihiv oblast.
Tarasenko said that an anonymous page consistently reposting video stories created by their journalists had appeared on TikTok. The team does not know who runs the page and for what purpose, but they stress that such use of their content is illegal and violates the media outlet’s copyright.
“We initially tried to contact the owner to ask them to take down the page and our content, but we never received a response. The page has been systematically reposting stories by Cheline without blurring out the titles, intro cards, or logo stickers. In our opinion, this may mislead people into thinking that the page is an official Cheline resource, which is not true. Despite our attempts to resolve the situation, the content continues to be posted without our permission,” said Talina Tarasenko.
The editorial team has reached out to the cyber police and the NCTRB with a request to take legal action within their respective powers.
The media outlet also filed a complaint with the TikTok support service, demanding the page be blocked.
