Russia is integrating milbloggers into its information campaigns to maintain control over the information space – ISW
The Russian government is integrating select Russian bloggers writing about the war in Ukraine to promote its politics.
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Stufy of War (ISW).
The ISW's report discusses an interview by "LNR" militant Maxim Fomin on Russian TV.
"The Kremlin is increasingly integrating select milbloggers into its information campaigns, likely in an effort to regain a dominant narrative within the information space. A prominent Russian milblogger involved in combat in occupied Donetsk Oblast gave a nearly 20-minute interview to a Russian federal channel pushing key Kremlin narratives on mobilization and support for the war effort," writes ISW.
Fomin's statements in the interview are consistent with recent acknowledgments by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) of problems with mobilization and generating support for the war that likely aim to prepare the Russian society for a protracted war.
According to analysts, the Kremlin has also intensified its efforts to coopt prominent milbloggers by offering them positions of power, which "allows them to amplify some elements of official rhetoric."
Earlier, the ISW said that Russian milbloggers were not only supportive of the war, but were also emerging as a group with a voice of their own within Russia.
