Police investigates in beating of journalist in Kyiv

The police in Kyiv investigates in a case of beating of a media professional occurred in Podilskyi district, as Ukrainian News Agency (UNN) reported with reference to the communication department of the Kyiv police.

“Police are establishing all facts surrounding the conflict involving the journalist in Podilskyi district of the capital. The reported incident is under verification, on the basis of its results the legal judgement is to be issued as to the actions of each person involved in this incident,” the report read.

On July 16, at 19:30 the Kyiv police was contacted as to an altercation on Svobody Avenue. A patrol police ujnit was sent to the scene.

“Upon arrival at the address, the law enforcement officers established that there had been a conflict between the complainer and a group of men, during which one of them had hit the journalist. The victim appealed to the Podolsk Police Department with a complaint, which was registered in compliance with the requirements of current legislation, "the report said.

It is noted that since one of the person involved in the incident was a police officer, an official inspection was ordered on behalf of the head of Kyiv police Andriy Kryshchenko. For the period of verification, the police officer was suspended from office.
