Police closes case over attack on Cherkasy journalist by UOC MP parishioners

The Cherkasy Oblast National Police HQ closed the case regarding the preclusion faced by the journalist Maksym Tkachenko, who works for the regional media outlet "18000".

The regional representative of the IMI was informed about this at the Cherkasy Oblast NPHQ press service.

The case closed on November 16, 2023 on the basis of Clause 2, Part 1, Article 284 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine (lack of a corpus delicti).

On June 29, 2023, parishioners of the Holy Candlemas church of the UOC MP attacked Maksym Tkachenko, a videoreporter for the media outlet 18000, and damaged his equipment. The incident happened after a meeting where the community decided to switch from the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation was opened on June 30 following a statement by the journalist.
