The Institute of Mass Information’s (IMI) regional hub Mediabaza Cherkasy hosted a candlemaking workshop for media workers, moderated and taught by candlemaker Maryna Sukhenko.

Each participant got to create a candle and paint a ceramic pot for it. The media workers’ designs reflected their autumn associations or their inner state.

“The candlemaking featured both art therapy and aromatherapy, because we painted the pots, chose the scents, and decorated them with autumn-themed embeds. The craftswoman assisted us at every stage of creating the candle. This is an interesting and meditative process that gave us a feeling of comfort in these gray, anxious days,” says 18000 journalist Anastasia But.

This is the second Mediabaza Cherkasy workshop that she has attended.
“Such events help you take a pause and get your mind off of work and the news stream for a few hours, to reboot,” adds Anastasia.
Valentyna Duka, a spokeswoman for the Cherkasy Thermal Power Plant, attended a Mediabaza event for the first time. She says that the workshop gave her a feeling of warmth and comfort.

“Now I have a handmade candle warming me on cool evenings, charged with positive energy,” says Valentyna.
