Occupiers are keeping the people in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia oblast in an information vacuum – Fedorov
Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov says that people living in the temporarily occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia oblast are unaware of the UAF's gains in Kherson oblast and are generally kept in an information vacuum. He said this at a briefing in Kyiv, reports ZN.ua.
"These people are living in an almost complete information vacuum. It is extremely difficult to get information through. This morning I spoke with Melitopol residents and asked them if they knew that Russian troops were withdrawing from Kherson oblast. I heard, 'No.' For me, this is an indicator that breaking news are not reaching them," Fedorov said.
The mayor also urged those who have relatives or friends in the temporarily occupied territories to get relevant and true information about the events in Ukraine through to them.
Earlier, Ivan Fedorov reported that Russian troops in Melitopol are halting people on the streets to check their social media. This way, they aim to create an information blockade in the city, so that the locals can not receive news from Ukraine.
Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia oblast) has been under the Russian troops' control since February 25.
