Medvedchuk and Kozak helped Russia fighting against informational security of Ukraine – PGO

13.05.2021, 13:30

The MPs Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak have been helping on Russia in its subversive activities against Ukraine, namely by waging an information war. This was announced at a briefing on May 11 by the Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova and the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Ivan Bakanov, as it is said on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office.

According to the report, in 2020 the both MPs were involved in refinement of the program "Project “Promin”" (Streak of Light Project) developed by Moscow aiming to gain the control over the developments in Ukraine.

The project was aimed at forming a network of agents of influence loyal to Russia, promoting and lobbying in Ukraine of political, geo-economic and other interests of the Russian Federation, the adoption of favorable for Russia management, economic, political decisions.

"One of the people's deputies, in accordance with the assigned role of an accessory to the crime, followed the instructions and commissions of another, in particular on the systematic communication with representatives of the Russian Federation and the exchange of information," - the statement reads.

Medvedchuk and Kozak are suspected of high treason and an unfinished attempt of embezzlement of national values in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 28, part 3 Article 15, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in 2015 the suspects handed over to Russia the documentary base of the Hlyboka deposit, located in the Prykerchensky shelf of the Black Sea in the exclusive (marine) economic zone of Ukraine. The resources of this deposit in monetary terms amount to more than 38 billion hryvnias (*around $1,373 billion).

It is reported that a special permit for subsoil use of the Hlyboka field was received in 2012 by the Ukrainian LLC New Projects. This LLC is managed by one of the actual MPs through affiliated persons (Medvedchuk. - Ed. ). While re-registrating a legal entity in the Russian Federation, he involved another MP, who was in fact a subordinate of him, and officials of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Thus, the report says, in accordance with Russian law, a “successor” of the “New Projects “ (Ukraine) company registered in Ukraine, “Novye Proekty” (Russia) LLC, was created in the temporarily occupied territory, in particular, to pay taxes in the Russian Federation.

After re-registration on the basis of existing Ukrainian permits and ready-made technical documents, “Novye Proekty” received a so-called license for geological exploration, exploration and production of hydrocarbons by 2046.

As IMI reported, on May 11, the Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova signed suspicions of high treason and attempted embezzlement of national resources in the Crimea by MPs Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak.
