Internews-Ukraine to provide scholarships to journalists who lost one’s job because of COVID-19

"Internews-Ukraine" NGO has announced a scholarship program "Stay in profession" and is willing to support professional journalists who lost their jobs due to the coronary crisis and to provide funding in the amount of 5500-6000 UAH (around $180 – 220).

The scholarship program is to cover making stories about successful reforms at the regional level.

The purpose of the program is to help journalists from independent media to preserve their professional skills and to keep  on working despite the challenges caused by the pandemic.

To participate in the program you must register by 11:59 PM on May 5, 2020 here.

What applications have a chance to succeed?

The applicants have to submit three ideas for the story in the registration form, one of which may be selected and funded. Suggestions that include the following are welcome:

  • Material genre: "success stories" or "decision-making journalism", eventually, long-reads.
  • Topic: Successful reforms at the regional level.
  • Multimedia tools to be used: photos, videos, infographics, and others.

Who can participate in the program?

Journalists who have worked in regional editions, but lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic crisis. 

Internews-Ukraine NGO reserves the right to check the accuracy of data on the current status of employment of a journalist, as well as to contact former employers.

Only selected participants will be notified of winning the scholarship program. The results will be announced by May 8, 2020 inclusive.

Where will the created materials be placed?

The stories of the winners will be published on the UkraineWorld online platform . It is a bilingual multimedia platform that explains Ukraine to the world. Among the most popular topics are Russian aggression, the current political and economic situation, reforming the country, prominent Ukrainians. The five best materials will be translated into English and distributed to UkraineWorld's international audience.
