Human rights Commissioner reports on information access complaints in Volyn oblast
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner on Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, has received 43 complaints regarding violations of the right to access public information from Volyn oblast in 2024.
The VRU Human Rights Commissioner's representative in Volyn oblast, Yuliya Spas, reported this in response to a request from an IMI representative.
The data were obtained through the digital document circulation system Megapolis.DocNet.
The largest number of complaints about denial of access to public information were filed against Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (4) and local self-government bodies: Soshychne Village Council (6) and Novovolynsk City Council (2).
As reported earlier, in June 2024, the Soshychne Village Council answered a request by Valentyna Kuts, a journalist with the Investigative Journalism Center "Syla Pravdy", after the journalist complained to the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights. She wanted to know how much money the village councils were allocating to the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2022 and 2023. The journalist submitted an information request back in February 2024 and received the answer in June, after an intervention by a representative of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
