Danilov believes it impossible to monopolize the media in Ukraine
It is impossible to monopolize the mass media in Ukraine, because Ukrainian journalists have paid too high a price for freedom and the opportunity to freely express their opinions in a democratic country.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, stated this in an interview with Ukrainske Radiо, Ukrinform reports.
"When they say that mass media will cease to exist in our country and that they will be monopolized, I can say that it is impossible in our Ukraine. Our journalists have paid a very high price for their freedom, for being able to work, for being able to express certain opinions in our democratic country, and it is impossible for someone to monopolize this environment. Moreover, today the development of communication systems which have nothing to do with licensing is happening at a crazy pace," said Danilov. He added that this was about social media and that it can become a problem for the state in certain aspects.
According to the NSDC Secretary, in 10-15 years there will be no classic television, "it will all go into the free space, and the one who creates interesting content will have the viewer's attention."
As reported by IMI, on July 11, the owner of the investment company SCM Rinat Akhmetov announced that the company was quitting the media business and ceasing the activities of the "Media Group Ukraine" online media. "Media Group Ukraine" will give up all broadcast and satellite television licenses of its channels and printed media licenses in Ukraine in favor of the state. Akhmetov mentioned the entry into force of the law on oligarchs and the impossibility of selling the business in the six months allowed by the law under market conditions as the reason for this decision.
On June 29, 2022 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy put into effect the June 29 decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the creation of a register of oligarchs.
