Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Russian authorities to release journalist Ibraimov
The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Russian authorities to release "Grani" correspondent Kulamet Ibraimov, who was arrested on July 27, and to drop all charges against him and "Graty" journalist Lutfie Zudieva.
This is reported on the CPJ website.
"Russian authorities in the occupied Ukrainian region of Crimea continue to harass journalists trying to shed light on the area’s alarming human rights situation. Their reporting is of crucial public interest and should not be hindered. Authorities must immediately release Kulamet Ibraimov, refrain from contesting Lutfiye Zudiyeva’s appeal, and let members of the press work freely," said Gulnoza Said, CPJ’s Europe and Central Asia program coordinator.
As IMI reported, Russian police in Crimea detained citizen journalists Lutfie Zudieva and Kulamet Ibraimov near the building of the Simferopol Supreme Court on July 27.
The media outlet "Graty" demanded the immediate release of their journalist Lutfie Zudieva. Zudieva had arrived to the Russian-installed Supreme Court of Crimea to cover a court hearing in the case of Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Celâl, and the Ahtemov brothers, whom the Russian authorities accuse of sabotage. She was not allowed to enter the court room and was later detained.
It was later reported that Lutfie Zudieva was released but fined 12,000 rubles. "Grani" correspondent Kulamet Ibraimov was arrested for five days.
