CJE received double of last year’s complaints
The Commission on Journalism Ethics (CIE) received 204 complaints this year, which is double of the complaints quantity in 2020. This was said by the head of the NGO "Commission on Journalism Ethics", President of the Ukrainian Association of Media Business Oleksiy Pogorelov interviewed by Hromadske Radio.
“The Commission on Journalistic Ethics received 204 complaints. Compared to the previous year, the quantity doubled. This is an indication that more people need quality media. We consider this trend to be positive, ” as Pogorelov said.
He noted that over the past year, the KZHE has seen an increase in the percentage of media that respond to requests (respond, send explanations) and change according to their recommendations.
Pogorelov noted, the CJE received complaints about traffic of fake press cards.
"I want to recall the story of the traffic of fake press cards. There are some organizations that make money from this. The media is registered and certificates are issued for a certain sum of money. We counted four such organizations. The Commission on Journalism Ethics is still receiving complaints against one of them.
A fictitious press card is a ticket to certain places or events, access to closed sources, and a permit to obtain a weapon. Because of the stories of the kind, respect for the journalistic profession is in decline. This is a significant decliningover the last 10 years, ” as the head of the Commission on Journalism Ethics said.
