37% of pro-Russian misinformation in Ukrainian media targeted West - IMI and “Detector Media” research

In 2021, the number of pro-Russian news items have been increased to 305 messages per week, compared to previous year. In 2020, it was an average of 206.5 messages with pro-Russian manipulations per week. Such are the figures of the monitoring study conducted by the Institute of Mass Information and “Detector Media”. The monitoring was to sift the content of the online editions, Telegram channels and TV channels in March, May, September, November 2020 and January, April 2021. Fragments of the study " Russian misinformation in the Ukrainian media landscape for 2020 - 2021 " were presented  in a video during the socio-political Forum "Democracy in Action" on June 8.

It is noted that the researchers analyzed 1,526 news items in 15 media outlets, which during 2020–2021 recorded pro-Russian and anti-Western narratives, fake news, manipulations and information campaigns conducted simultaneously with Russian propaganda media. These were in particular 112ua, ZIK, Newsone, "Strana", "Holos.ua", "Vesti", "Ukrainski Novyny", "Podrobnosti", "Bahnet", "KP in Ukraine", "Apostrophe", "Comentari", " Telegraph".
