Who among online media did ignore Pandora Papers investigation on Zelensky
According to investigation by Slidstvo.Info, a new leak from 14 companies that registered and serviced offshore companieshave partially confirmed the scheme of transferring funds from the structures of oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky to offshore companies of Volodymyr Zelensky and his associates. Among other things, the investigation noted that before being elected president in 2019, Volodymyr Zelensky signed over his share in the offshore company to Serhiy Shefir, who is now an adviser to the president, free of charge.
IMI analyzed which of prominent Ukrainian online media spoke of the investigation and which ignored it.
In particular, the media which spoke of "Slidstvo. Info’s" investigation:
Suspilne, dzerkalo Tyzhdnya, Ukrayinska Pravda, NV, Radio Liberty, Obozrevatel, Gordon, Hromadske, Censor, Babel, Bukvy, Liga, Espresso, UNN, Interfax-Ukraine, Channel 24. In addition, Korrespondent took the news from DW, which mentioned Zelensky among other world leaders, but without details about PrivatBank and Kolomoysky.
The media which didn’t mention Zelensky in the context of the investigation or ignored him at all:
TSN, Segodnya, UNIAN, Ukrinform and RBC-Ukraine. At the same time, RBC-Ukraine spoke of the investigation only regarding personalities from other countries. Example:
- A consortium of investigative journalists called the United States the largest tax haven
- The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic bought a castle in France through an offshore company - "Pandora's file"
UNIAN and Ukrinform placed only the news citing the reaction to the investigation, including the adviser head OP Mykhaylo Podolyak : "If you recall of the campaign in 2019, all that is voiced, had been mentioned at different levels. In fact, today, we see a resumption to the content of that election. The responses to accusations from the opponents in 2019 had not been insufficient : all (accusations –n/tr) got the right response, "he said.
The lack of mentions of the research on the Segodnya, TSN and UNIAN websites may be related to the editorial policy of media owners. We remind you that Segodnya is owned by Segodnya Multimedia LLC and is a part of Media Group Ukraine media holding, which belongs to Renat Akhmetov. By the way, Akhmetov himself also became a object in this investigation. TSN and UNIAN editions belong to the “1 + 1” media holding, which is associated with oligarch Ihor Kolomoysky.
