Results of mass media monitoring by the level of adherence to professional standards of journalism. 3rd quarter of 2018

31.08.2018, 12:55
In the third quarter of 2018, the leader in online media outlets in adherence to professional standards changed. The new leader is website “Ukrainska Pravda”, where 96% of published materials contained no violations of professional standards. The second position was shared by websites “Ukrinform” and “Liga”. These are the results of IMI research on adherence to key professional standards of journalism in 10 online mass media and in 5 printed media outlets, which is conducted with support of “Internews network”*. *Unexpectedly for media experts, the third position was taken by a “dark horse” – website “Korespondent”, which published 88% of its materials without violations, which is a considerable achievement for this media outlet. The worst indicators in adherence to professional standards in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were in “Strana” and “Obozrevatel” (40 and 44% of materials had violations). The main violations registered by IMI experts in the monitored mass media in July were related to accuracy and balance of opinions. In average, in July in online media outlets 13% of materials were inaccurate or had unreliable sources of information, and 9% were unbalanced.
