Pro-Russian political forces as main commissioners of political jeansa in web-based editions – IMI’s survey

  The "Opposition platform - For life" party once more came in top position at the anti-rating of customers of materials with signs of disguised political propaganda in mass media. IMI monitoring revealed, there were 48% of materials friendly to this political force from the total number of articles with signs of being paid-for. Such are the findings of the survey of political jeansa held by the Institute of Mass Information within the period from June 24 to 28, 2019 in 13 popular web-based editions, a complete sample was 30,000 news items. * The materials friendly to "Opposition Platform - For Life" party were recorded in five of 13 analyzed media. The most frequently this political force was the covered in the websites of the 112th Channel and NewsOne, whose owner MP Taras Kozak is one of the closest allies of Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the political council of this party. Yulia Tymoshenko and the party run by her, “Batkivshchyna” took second place with a significant margin: only 8% of materials friendly to them out of all materials that would-be paid-for were revealed experts of IMI in online media. 6% of the materials with signs of paid-for journalism concerned activities of the Opposition bloc, with the key figures Borys Kolesnykov, Volodymyr Buryak and Vadym Novynsky. 5% of the materials with signs of commissioned ones were friendly to the party "Servant of the people", they had mainly emotional positive images of Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, information about sports records, and so on. The material is written based on the analysis fulfilled during the period from June 24 to 28, 2019 in such media outlets: "Obozrevatel", "Znay.ua", 24th channel, "Gordon", "Ukrayinska Pravda", "Novoye Vremya", UNIAN, "Segodnya", TSN, 112.ua, NewsOne, RBC.ua, "Liga.net". The sample covers all the news in a row that were published on the websites during above-mentioned period (more than 30 thousand news).The research was conducted within the framework of the project with the support of the US Embassy's Media Development Fund in Ukraine. The views of the authors do not necessarily coincide with the official position of the US government.
