Half of jeansa in regional online media: from local politicians and city authorities: IMI research study
The most of the news items with signs of political order have been published by the online media in Dnipro, as compared to other regions of Ukraine covered by this monitoring study. At the same time, the regional online media had the most news items with signs of order speaking about local politicians and local council bodies. These are the results of a monitoring study by the NGO "Institute of Mass Inforation", which was conducted in 10 regions of Ukraine in July this year. *
Thus, in Dnipro the jeansa indice was 5.3% of the total number of publications in the online media of the region. There was no news item with signs of order seen in the online media in Odessa.
The average rate of positive commissioned materials in all regions was 1.3% of the total number of publications. This figure remained unchanged as compared to the IMI study in July 2020. Also, according to this year's monitoring, 0.2% of the total amount of counter-propaganda in the online media regions was recorded, as well as 0.2% of improperly labeled political advertising.
Thus, 85% of news items with signs of order in the regional online media were well-meaning texts about political parties, politicians and officials. At the same time, almost every seventh news item, or 15% of materials with signs of ordering, was counter-propaganda. Most counter-propaganda materials were published in the online media in Dnipro (1% of the total number of news items in the online media of the region or every fifth ordered material), Kharkiv (0.6%) and Lviv (0.5%). No counter-propaaganda materials were recorded in Volyn, Donetsk, Kherson and Cherkasy online media.
According to the survey, local politicians (27% of the total number of positive jeans) and local authorities (25%) were most often commissioners of jeansa in the online media. Positive commissioned texts about public authorities accounted for 21%, politicians of the all-Ukrainian level : 16%, parties : 11% of publications from the total number of jeansa. Another 10% of the news items fell on another topic.
As for positive articles with signs of ordering with mentions of political forces and / or their representatives, these were regional parties which self-promoted the most in regional media (35% of the total number of mentions in materials with signs of positive ordering), as well as European Solidarity (29%), For the Future (15%), Ze! Team / Servant of the People (6% of materials with signs of positive political order). It should be noted that during the monitoring no jeansa with any mention of OPFL, Batkivshchyna, Shariy’s Party and Golos were recorded. Other parties were mentioned in 15% of materials with signs of order.
Also, according to the study, one of the TOP-3 topics covered by politicians and officials was the Big Construction project - 18% of materials with signs of positive ordering were related to it. At the same time, 32% of materials with signs of positive ordering were promoted on social issues, and 28% of materials on politics. The subject of health and coronavirus accounted for 5% of the total number of jeansa, the economy and business - 4%, environmental issues - 3% of the materials.
* The study from July 5 to 9, 2021 analyzed 7,896 news items, including 121 news items with signs of ordering, including 103 positive materials with signs of ordering, 18 counter-propaganda materials, as well as 18 materials - improperly labeled political advertising out of 50 regional online media in 10 regions of Ukraine (Volyn, Dnipro, unoccupied territories of Donetsk region (Mariupol), Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kherson, Cherkasy). News items from the online media news wire were monitored.
The monitoring methodology included analysis of the number of publications with signs of order in the news wire of regional online media, analysis of the number of positive jeansa, counter-propaganda and improperly labeled political advertising, identification of the main customers of positive publications with signs of order (local policy, national policy, political parties with branchs), local authorities, public authorities, etc.), the subject of materials with signs of positive order (social (communal, transport, benefits, social programs, education, etc.), local policy / policy, big construction project, health / coronavirus, economics / business, ecology, human rights, etc.), analysis of the number of ordered publications with mentions of party forces and their representatives.
