6 cases over journalists’ rights violations referred to court by police in the last 4 months

Photo credits: https://anh-usa.org Since last 4 months, the investigation officers of the National police have instituted prejudicial inquiry into 63 delicts committed against professional journalists, as to the communicative department of the National police. Based on the conclusions of the investigation, 6 criminal indictments have been referred to the bar, 52 criminal cases have been dismissed. 46 delicts have been registered based on the article 171 of Criminal Code (Obstruction to professional activity of journalist), 12 delicts have been registered based on the article 345-1 of the Criminal Code (Threats and violence against the journalist), 4 delicts registered based on the article 347-1 of the Criminal Code (Intentional damaging or destroying of property of the journalist), 1 delict have been registered based on the article 348-1 of the Criminal Code (Attempt upon the life of the journalist). As IMI informed, during the first quarter of 2019, our experts revealed 72 incidents involving the breaches of press freedom in Ukraine. At the same time, more than a half of them were fcats of physical aggression.
