Volyn’s “Konkurent TV” channel and “Volyn Online” website received threatening emails sent from Russia. The emails contain “recommendations” concerning the journalists’ responsibility for covering the actions of the aggressor state and its army.

The media’s editors shared this with IMI’s representative in Volyn oblast.

As “Konkurant TV” editor Oleksandra Kruteyeva stated, on April 8 the editorial email address received a letter from user “Nikolai Petukhov.” The letter contained a message in Russian: “Soon all the journalists and media persons will have to answer according to all the severity of Russian law, because Russian troops are already moving towards Kyiv. I recommend you learn some prison slang, for you have few moments of freedom left.”

The “Volyn Online” editor Maryana Metelska received a similar letter on April 8. On April 9, she received the thrid threatening letter. “For spreading misleading information about the actions of Russian troops and promoting Zelenskyi’s regime, all journalists will face criminal responsibility with subsequent deployment to penal facilities,” the email says.

On April 11, Maryana Metelska received the fourth letter from Russians. This letter, written in Russian by user “Artem Krasilnikov,” was threatening that all journalists who support Zelenskyi’s “neo-Nazi” regime will be sent for questioning and charged, with subsequent deployment to penal facilities.”

We remind that on April 7, two Volyn media outlets, “Konkurent” and “Volyn Online”, received threatening emails sent from Russia. In these emails, journalists are threatened with criminal responsibility for “fakes and lies about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.”
