President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Ukrainian and foreign journalists for winning the information war.

He said this on September 9 while presenting journalists with state awards for courage and selflessness they showed protecting the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Ukraine, according to the head of state's website.

According to the President, from the first day of the full-scale russian invasion, Ukrainian and foreign journalists have been telling the world the truth about what is happening in Ukraine, uniting both Ukrainians and citizens of other countries around in the support for our country.

"They helped unite Europe and the whole world, convince hesitant leaders of some states of our ability to win and convey what we are fighting for," said Volodymyr Zelensky.

He noted that amidst Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine, not only on the frontline, but also in the media sphere, which is full of the enemy's propaganda, conveying the truth is quite a difficult task.

"And I want to thank all of you: we won this information war. It is not over yet, but so far we have defeated the Russian Federation, and its multimillion-dollar investments in information attacks against us around the world," Zelenskyy said.

The President noted that many journalists have died in this war while carrying out their duties. Those present honored the memory of the fallen with a moment of silence.

At the same time, he stressed that the journalists' contribution to Ukraine's fight for freedom and independence is very significant regardless of where each of them worked – on the front line or in the home front.

"Today, all those who are alive and who will forever remain in memory are equally heroes. Those who were and are on the front line, and those who have not left their country since February 24 and reported the truth in the civilian sector," the President noted.

Volodymyr Zelensky presented journalists and other mass media representatives with state awards, which were given to them on the occasion of Independence Day for their significant merits in strengthening the Ukrainian statehood, the courage and selflessness they showed protecting of the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Ukraine, their significant personal contribution to the development of various spheres of public life, for defending our state's national interests, and their diligence in performing their professional duties.

Foreign journalists were also honored for significant personal merits in strengthening interstate cooperation, support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and a significant contribution to the popularization of the Ukrainian state in the world.

As reported by IMI, on August 23, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy by his decree bestowed state awards on a number of Ukrainian media persons on the occasion of the Ukrainian Independence Day.
