Verkhovna Rada passes draft bill on copyright in the first reading
The Verkhovna Rada has voted for draft bill №5552-1 "On copyright and related rights," aimed at harmonizing Ukrainian intellectual property legislation with the European legislation, in the first reading.
276 People's Deputies voted for the according decision on July 1, Suspilne reports.
The explanatory note to the document states that the draft bill is aimed at regulating relations connected to the acquisition, exercise, and protection of personal non-property and property copyright and (or) related rights, as well as sui generis rights related to the field of copyright and (or) related rights.
According to the note, the draft bill was developed with the aim of improving the legal regulation of issues related to the exercise and protection of personal non-property and property rights of copyright subjects and related rights, including the harmonization of the provisions of the Civil Code of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine "On Copyright and Related Rights" with the European Union's legislation norms in the part related to providing reliable legal protection of copyright and related rights.
The Parliament also plans to eliminate the gaps in the current legislation that prevent the implementation of certain provisions of this legislation, namely with regards to ensuring the exercise of droit de suite.
The authors of the draft bill propose to improve the current legislation in terms of solving issues that arise in practice and are related to the exercise and protection of copyright and related rights.
