The home of Slidstvo.Info journalist Yanina Korniyenko was damaged in the Russian strike in Kyiv on 2 June. All the windows in her apartment were broken, the balcony and window frames were completely blasted out, and the wall of the building was cracked in the second strike, Korniyenko reported in a comment to the Institute of Mass Information (IMI) journalist Valentyna Troyan.
Yanina said that the second strike had occurred in the afternoon in the same spot as the previous one. The building is now unsafe to be in.
“All the windows in my apartment were broken, the balcony was blasted out along with the window frames. During the second strike in the afternoon (which hit the same spot), a wall cracked. Overall, I think that it is not very safe here today, because literally an hour ago a Shahed hit the same spot as at night. It was very scary, because there are many people on site: the first responders are working and the locals are cleaning their homes,” the media professional said.
Yanina added that immediately after the first strike, she contacted the KERS (Kyiv Emergency Rescue Service). Later, municipal vehicles arrived to clean the yard and the residents were provided with plastic film to cover the damaged windows.
The journalist has not yet applied for state aid or compensation, as she is primarily trying to make her home safe.
Due to severe damage to the apartment, Yanina Korniyenko has to seek temporary shelter.
“I will be staying in a hotel for the next few days while I look for other accommodation. I have no idea where that will be. I have a pet, so it will take some time to find a suitable place,” she said.
As IMI reported, the family of journalist, media researcher, and head of the NGO CAT-UA Artem Zakharchenko, whose apartment was damaged in the 24 May 2026 Russian strike in Kyiv, is safe. They are staying with their friedns.
