Top-list enemies of Media reforms

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine published the names of officials who joined the anti-rating "Enemies of the press reforms-2016" for the year end. The NUJU site reports about this news.

"Number of officials entered the list of "Enemies of the press reforms-2016 " for such "achievments" as interference in local newspapers' reforms, systematic pressure on the editors' offices and arbitrary dismissal of editors, which the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine publishes for the year end," - statement said.

Most of the list - the heads of district, city and regional councils. By political affiliation officials representing Petro Poroshenko Bloc "Solidarity" opposition bloc "Homeland" and "Renaissance."

NUJU First Secretary, Serhiy Tomilenko said that local officials continue to ignore media reform despite fact that the bill on reforms of municipal newspaper came into force. "Some influential representatives of the ruling party appears to blatantly ignore the policies of the President and "Solidarnist" party," - he said. Tomilenko noted that NUJU looking for ways to protect journalists from "the pressure and arbitrary power, attach lawyers to provide legal protection, preparing appropriate appeals". In many cases, NUJU has positive results in editors' favor in many conflict cases.

"We hope that this Anti-list and public disapprove will affect the position of these persons. NUJU also expects that senior management to whom they appeal, will intervene in cases of obstruction reform of local newspapers," - the first secretary of NUJU said.

NUJU working group concluded Top-list enemies of reforms according to appeals from newspapers, editors and journalists.
