04.11.2017, 15:38
Shevchenkivskyi district court of Kyiv city denied the MP Svitlana Zalishchuk and the Helsinki Association a permission to bail out the journalist Zhanara Akhmet from Kazakhstan , who was arrested for 18 days. The MP requests the Committee for freedom of press and human rights to consider this issue. Mrs Zalishchuk reported this in her Facebook entry, “Detector media” reports. As the attorney of the journalist Vladyslav Hryshchenko reported, On November 2 Shevchenkivskyi district court of Kyiv city satisfied the request of the prosecutor's office about extradition arrest of Zhanara Akhmet for 2 month, with an option to extend it to 12 months. As IMI reported before, journalist and blogger from Kazakhstan was detained on October 21 due to being on Interpol wanted list. She was forced to escape to Ukraine from Kazakhstan in March of 2017. She is accused of fraud, but she claims her case was fabricated due to her criticism of Kazakhstan authorities.
