On October 17, Boryspil city district court selected pre-trial restriction for the journalist, citizen of Neitherlands, Fikert Guseinli (Fikert Guseinov) in form of 18 days of arrest. Fikert was detained in the airport “Boryspil” in Kyiv on demand of Azerbaijan. This was reported by the attorney Dmytro Mazurok, “Detector media” reports.
“Unfortunately, we did not manage to file the documents (on refugee status – ed.) and he was detained for 18 days. He will be kept in Lukianivskyi pre-trial detention facility”, he said.
The defense, according to the attorney, will file an appeal.
“This is not a bad option, he was arrested for 18 days. the judge was guided by the Convention. So not 40, 18 days. After this time, all documents will be prepared properly, and we will file an appeal”, state attorney Alla Salamatova said.
Salamatova added that the prosecutor's office will also contst the judge's decision, as they wanted 40 days of arrest, not 18.
Fikert Guseinov left Azerbaijan 10 years ago, after he was kidnapped and cruelly beaten. The kidnappers were never found.
As the journalists' colleagues report, Fikart Guseinov already received citizenship of the Netherlands and cooperates with the opposition channel “Turan”, which broadcasts from abroad.
