The Council of Judges wants to introduce a training course about freedom of speech

The Council of Judges of Ukraine proposes to enter a special training course for judges on criminal cases in the protection of freedom of the media and for the obstruction of journalistic activities at the National School of Judges. Council of Judges adopted this decision on February 10, according to the website of the Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeal.

In particular, the proposed introduction of training courses for judges concern the specifics of criminal cases under articles 171, 3451, 3471, 3481, 3491of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The course is proposed in order to improve the qualifications of judges.

This decision was taken after the member of Judges of Ukraine Yevhen Mezentseva presented information on the need to improve the efficiency of the proceedings of attacks on freedom of speech and journalists' professional activities. He presented that at the international conference "Safety of Journalists: an imperative for free media" on February 3.

Besides, this decision was taken in order to implement the recommendations of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to member states "to protect journalism and safety of journalists and other media workers."
