The authorities have opened criminal proceedings on the fact of email threats received by Zaporizhzhia editorial offices from russia.

This was reported to IMI by the Prosecutor General's Office.

The criminal proceedings have been instituted under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code “Violation of the laws or customs of war.” The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years.

It is known that the proceedings were initiated on the grounds of information, published by IMI in particular, that on March 25, 2022 journalists of Zaporizhzhia websites 061.ua and inform.zp.ua received emails with threats and demands that the editorial staff voluntarily resign from their positions. In case of refusal, the message said, they would be interrogated and tortured.

As IMI representative in Zaporizhzhia region learned, the journalists have already been summoned for questioning as part of the proceedings.

We remind that Zaporizhzhia websites 061.ua and inform.zp.ua systematically receive threats from russia. In particular, the last letter with threats arrived to 061.ua on June 6.
