Sumy journalists open an exhibition to draw attention to the daily shelled city

18.09.2024, 17:47

Journalists with the Sumy news outlet "Kordon.Media" opened a photo exhibition for the Sumy Day, which fell on September 7 this year, reports the Institute of Mass Information representative in Sumy oblast, Alyona Yatsyna.

Sumy celebrates the day of their city on the first Saturday of September every year. This year Sumy turned 369 years old. Since the vast majority of Kordon.Media staff live in Sumy, they decided to prepare a photo exhibition that would be symbolic both for themselves and for their fellow citizens as a gift to the city.

The journalists organized the photo exhibition to draw attention to Sumy, which is being shelled by Russia daily. They want to remember the city as it is now and to cheer up the people of Sumy, as their mood depends on how the previous night passed.

The stands displaying photos are located in the Theater Square in Sumy and feature QR-codes which viewers can scan to access all the photos for download.

The photos were made by the soldiers Yehor Kryvoruchko and Pavlo Zarva and capture the city as it is now. The images show not only Sumy's staple buildings, but also ordinary houses and streets that locals see every day.

"Our audience is used to us showing the horrors of war. Despite living only 30 kilometers away from the Russian border and the daily strikes with anti-tank missiles and ballistic missiles having become part of the city's daily life, the people continue to live, love and dream," says Olesya Borovyk, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Kordon.Media.

"Air raid alerts, explosions and constant fear – all this has become part of everyday life for the people of Sumy. On the one hand, the situation in the city seems to be completely under control: people live their lives as usual, go to work, study, children do hobby clubs. During the day, despite the the alerts, the city is alive, but almost every evening for a month now, explosions start to go off in the city, sometimes they continue throughout the night. The enemy is pelting Sumy and the surrounding villages with missiles and guided aerial bombs: there are casualties, people wounded, and buildings destroyed," says Olesya Borovyk.
