Russian hackers tried to break into computer networks of some apartment buildings, says SBU
Cyber experts of the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a Russian hacker attack on the computer systems of the residential infrastructure in one of Ukraine's border oblasts, the agency's press service reported.
The hackers used WiFi networks of some apartment buildings to remotely connect to the video surveillance systems overlooking the residential complexes, nearby roads, etc. In this way, they planned to obtain a secret channel for collecting information about the situation in the city.
"The aggressor was also interested in the addresses of Ukrainian law enforcers and the possible movement of military equipment.
"However, the SBU acted in advance and promptly exposed the occupiers' reconnaissance and sabotage attempts in the border oblast," the SBU said.
According to their data, a hacker group controlled by the Russian special services, which specializes in hacking electronic systems of infrastructure facilities, was involved in the cyberattack.
Taking into account the collected facts regarding this border oblast event, a case under Art. 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Willful interference with the operation of computers, computer systems and networks).
As IMI reported, since the beginning of the year, the SBU has neutralized over 4,500 cyberattacks on Ukraine.
