Russia targets the Institute of Communications in Poltava. Casualties reported
On September 3, Russian troops targeted the Institute of Communications in Poltava with missiles, killing and wounding multiple people, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ministry of Defense announced on Telegram.
According to the President, Russia launched two ballistic missiles at Poltava. As of now, 41 dead and over 180 wounded casualties have been reported.
Volodymyr Zelensky adds that the missiles hit an educational institution and a nearby hospital. One of the buildings of the Institute of Communications was destroyed in part, trapping people under the rubble.
"I ordered a full and prompt investigation into all of the circumstances of what happened. All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation. I am grateful to everyone who has been helping and saving lives from the very first moments following the strike," said the President.
According to the Ministry of Defense, emergency responders and paramedics have rescued 25 people, 11 of whom were retrieved from under the rubble.
As of now, the rescuers continue their work.
The Ministry and the President expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.
