Rivne Prosecutor’s office concealed from journalists information about corrupt officials

The prosecutor’s office of Rivnenska oblast refused to provide to the online media outlet “Chetverta vlada” (“Fourth Power”) information about names of Rivnenska oblast corrupt officials. The media outlet claims that it will, if necessary, obtain this information through the court.

Before, the media outlet journalists sent their request to the Ministry of Justice, which also refused to provide the list of Rivnenska oblast officials who were adjudged as corrupt. Now this request was sent to the local prosecutor’s office. The response was that only Ministry of Justice can command the release of such information.

The media lawyer of “Institute for Development of Regional Press”, Oleksander Burmahin, believes that such information cannot be of restricted access, and, according to the law, has to be released on request.
