The wounded Ukrainian journalist with Reuters, Ivan Lyubysh-Kirdey, is no longer in a coma; he was taken off the IVL and transported from Dnipro to Kyiv, the journalist's wife Maria Semenchenko reported on Facebook on September 23.

"He is not comatose, but not conscious either. Unfortunately, there isn't a pill or injection that could speed up the process of getting Ivan (or anyone with such an injury) back to himself and his family. We have to wait and have faith in the best. And this is very difficult. Especially when you have no influence on anything and don't know where to put your desire to do something," wrote Maria.

According to her, Ivan is currently in intensive care.

"He has not regained consciousness. Doctors are currently treating his other injuries and wounds. I visit him every day," she wrote, adding that his friends will be able to visit him a little later.

"Now I will be asking you to record not audios, but videos for Ivan with words of support, news and your stories. I believe that he will soon come to and will be able not just to hear you, but also to see you. And hearing and seeing you comforts me, too," wrote Maria.

The Russian missile strike on the Sapphire Hotel in Kramatorsk on August 24, 2024 killed Ryan Evans, a safety advisor with the British news agency Reuters. Other two members of the Reuters team were injured and hospitalized. Reuters cameraman Ivan Lyubysh-Kirdey was severely wounded. The National Police notes that Russia struck the hotel where a crew of foreign reporters was staying with an Iskander-M missile.

The international watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemns the Russian attack and called for a thorough investigation to identify the culprits and prosecute them.
