Anastasia Hlukhovska, a journalist with RIA Melitopol (now RIA Pivden) has been imprisoned in a pre-trial detention centre (PTDC) in Kizel (Perm Krai, Russia) for two years now. She sews bedsheets and other goods for the prison, Anastasia’s sister Diana Fomenko told RIA Pivden.
Fomenko said that the news about Anastasia’s situation surfaced during a recent prisoner swap: Ukrainian intelligence officers spoke to one of the released men, who had been to the cell where Anastasia is detained.
According to RIA Pivden, the journalist’s cell measures 4 by 5 metres.
“There’s a toilet, even hygiene goods and fiction to read. They keep her in the cell constantly, sewing bedsheets and other items for the PTDC,” Diana Fomenko said.

She also reported that Anastasia’s lawyer had received a reply to one of his recent inquiries to the Kizel PTDC management regarding whether Anastasia is detained in that facility. The reply claimed that this information was a state secret.
“That’s some progress, at least. Because before, we would get responses saying that no such person had been detained and that they knew nothing about her. They are not saying that anymore, but now they cite state secrets,” Diana Fomenko said. She added that the prison did not accept letters addressed to Anastasia because officially she has never been detained.
The imprisoned journalist holds incommunicado status: Russia has not officially acknowledged arresting or imprisoning her. However, RIA Pivden reports, the International Committee of the Red Cross has confirmed that Anastasia Hlukhovska is detained in a Russian jail.
